Priyanka Chopra Reveals How She Almost Lost Her Daughter and How Nick Has Been Her #1 Supporter

Priyanka Chopra is peeling back the layers of her private life as she recently shared some rare details about her daughter, Malti, and husband Nick Jonas. The actress provided a unique perspective on motherhood, opening up about the immense fear that she faced after having her daughter and how the event changed their lives.

How Priyanka and Nick’s lives were shaped by the unexpected event.

Priyanka, who is 40 years old, and her 30-year-old husband, Nick Jonas, had their first child, Malti, with a surrogate in January of last year. Unfortunately, the newborn had to spend more than 100 days in a NICU unit, a period of time where Priyanka said she “had to be her strength as her mom.”

The actress stated that these tumultuous first months had a significant impact on her parenting style because she was very close to losing little Matli. She recalled how Nick held her by the shoulders and guided her to the hospital, and since then, they have never left their daughter’s side.

Featured on the May digital cover of Elle, Priyanka exuded glamour in silk sleepwear and lace dresses while delving into topics such as motherhood, career, and her union with an illustrious member of America’s prominent boyband. The actress confessed to facing challenges with the discipline aspect of parenting. Her priority is to see Malti happy and smiling as it brings immense joy to her life.

The couple experienced immense fear after their daughter spent 100 days in a neonatal unit following her birth. Priyanka would often press her ear against Malti’s chest just to ensure that she was breathing when they finally brought her home. Priyanka now understands a mother’s responsibility to protect her children and strives to provide Malti with the love and support she had in her childhood.

The importance of work-life balance in the couple’s life

The actress also discussed her marriage to Nick and how they balance their careers with their family life. She emphasized the importance of mutual support and doing things for each other, “It’s simple things: I love coffee in bed, and my husband realized that, and now I always have coffee in bed. That support is tremendously important, but it’s a 2-way street,” she explained.

She recently achieved pay parity with her male co-star.

Furthermore, the actress has discussed her role in the upcoming Netflix series, Citadel, in which she plays Nadia Sinh, a top agent of a global spy network. The series is characterized as a propulsive and high-concept show, and the character of Nadia is inspired by the James Bond character. The executive producers, The Russo Brothers, have stated that Nadia will be responsible for all the “heavy lifting” in the show, which is a gender-swapped departure from the male-dominated genre.

Priyanka is excited to take on the role and perform the action scenes and deliver the cool lines. She is seeking challenges and heavy lifts in her career, and she is eager to flex her muscles and tackle complex roles.

In real life, Priyanka is also tackling gender inequality in the entertainment industry. She recently worked with Jennifer Salke, the head of Amazon Studios, to obtain equal pay with her male co-star for an upcoming project. Priyanka believes that having females in positions of power and decision-making can create opportunities for other women in the industry.

Today, she knows the real value of family life.

During an appearance on a show, Priyanka mentioned that her 15-month-old daughter, Malti, was also present with her. She explained that she, her daughter, and her mother were all traveling together because she and her husband Nick were both on tour.

Priyanka emphasized the importance of spending time with family, something that she didn’t prioritize in her twenties. She now values the home she has built and recognizes how it motivates her to do her best at work. “It’s magical and it’s healing. I feel great when I leave for work in the morning because I’ve had that time,” the actress shared.

She initially underestimated Nick Jonas, but now she sees him as the ideal husband.

While her family life is blossoming, it wasn’t what she initially imagined when she met Nick. The actress initially underestimated the singer when they first met, thinking that he was too young and not ready to settle down. However, after their first date, she realized that he was an old soul and the stability that she had been looking for.

After being together for over 5 years, Priyanka spoke of Nick as her cheerleader who gets excited about her wins and supports her in all aspects of her life. She also praised him for his even-tempered nature and ability to handle anything thrown at him while also being vulnerable with her. Priyanka concluded by saying that she feels safe with her husband and wishes the same for everyone.

Now, Malti is doing well and is still comforted by the Hindi lullabies that Priyanka sang to her in the NICU. The devoted mother also wants her daughter to be bilingual in Hindi and English. She even introduced her to the Indian side of her heritage by taking the little one with her to Mumbai.
